Northeast Tour w/ The Problemaddicts, Rapper Big Pooh (Little Brother) & Termanology

Just got back from New England........for some reason we chose to go on tour in NE during the worst recorded weather in years. That shit was GNARLY, I'm talkin rolling blackouts, hurricane winds, torrential rain, snow, sleet, you name it...we got it. We were thankful to come out unharmed, Pooh and crew (Big Dho & Justus League affils) unfortunately were not as lucky, totaling their van the 3rd night of tour...rough. They ended up in the hospital with not-too serious injuries (see pics below) however it inevitably de-railed the momentum of the run itself (which due to the weather was not that strong from the jump.) We would literally roll into a city, head to the venue for soundcheck, and they'd have no power! Half the town wouldn't have power....fortunately our hotels DID, and eventually power was restored to the rest of the block. Needless to say, the weather fucked us completely all week in every city. Big up to the Justus cats for STILL rocking in Burlington VT post-crash. As Joe Scudda put it on twitter: "Getting hit by 18 wheeler...total your van..go to hospital ..drive 1 hour to get bags out of van & 2 hours to hotel jus to still ROCK 2nite!" BOOM. My hat also goes off to Termanology for hustling thru it and rocking less-than adequate 'crowds' the same as if it were 1,000 heads in the spot. His set was off the meter too, I wish I had gotten some video clips. I also have never seen a headlining hip hop artist stand front row and vibe out to the opening acts...that shows a lotta respect and appreciation in my book. Huge respect to Term and the whole ST da squad fam for real. For those unfamiliar, Term's first hit was "Watch How It Go Down" w/ DJ Premier, and lawd have mercy does that shit knock live.

Big Dho & Pooh banged up in VT.

We were able to at least promote the new mixtape "Burn This Shit" which you can still download for free right HERE !

Here's a throwback joint to chew on from '06 with the big homie Planet Asia. Still knocks.....

(!K7, Gold Dust, Dutty Artz)

Performing LIVE for one night only!

DJ THEORY
(Fever, Bay Area Burners)

DJ SEP
(Dub Mission, KPFA)

Jahdan Blakkamoore has been bruising airwaves in the states and abroad this year with the release of his first debut solo album "Buzzrock Warrior" on Guld Dust/!K7 records. Not only that, the album just topped the Itunes "2009 Rewind" for reggae/world music! Not much of a surprise there, considering the record is getting charted and rinsed worldwide, and his BK group Noble Society took Best Reggae Record on Itunes for 2008 with their debut full-length "Take Charge".

Jahdan Blakkamoore has long made a name for himself as a gifted and inspiring reggae/dancehall/hip hop/dubstep artist, both nationally and internationally. Originally from Guyana, he moved to Brooklyn at a young age, soaking up all the music the city had to offer. His music has been described as ‘Urban World Music with a message.’ Jahdan’s sense of melody, superb song writing skills and ability to effortlessly cross over genres has solidified his status as reggae royalty. On his recently released solo debut album, Buzzrock Warrior (Gold Dust/!K7 Records), Jahdan’s intensity on the mic brings a large palate of sounds, including dancehall, dubstep, cumbia, rap and R&B cohesively together with thought-provoking lyrics that demand one’s attention. “The General,” the first single from the album, made Song of the Week on National Geographic. Besides the Dutty Artz crew (Matt Shadetek, Dj/rupture, Jahdan, and Geko Jones), the album also features contributions from Modeselektor, Jammer, chanda via Circuito (Zizek), Maga Bo and 77Klash.

Through many years of delivering command performances and recordings in the U.S., Europe and Japan, Jahdan has amassed a large fan base, and worked with the likes of Branford Marsalis, DJ Premier, Afu Ra, and Dead Prez. Jahdan’s feature on the hook and verse of Smiff N Wesson’s classic, ‘Sound Bwoy Buriell’ is still played regularly in the clubs around the world and in radio throwback sets. He is also featured on the track “Cash Flow” from Diplo and Switch’s massive Major Lazer project, and on the song “Struggla,” from Matisyahu’s new album. This year Jahdan performed at Summer Stage in Central Park, NY and the Reggae Rising Music Festival in California where he shared the stage with a who's who of current and foundation reggae stars.

Robot Rock

Hats off to Frank 151 (no surprise there) for this priceless clip.....Their caption read "What's funny is that we just saw this chick walking around Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg. She hasn't aged one bit." Couldn't have worded that better myself... For some reason Bay Area hipsters don't seem to resemble NYC hipsters...I'm just gonna leave that one alone for now and watch this clip again. Learn how to do the seizure...I mean robot, from the raddest tweaker on the block, dancin' Kim!

While we're at it, gonna put Busy on with his new tune "Like A Robot" all too fitting with that video. Who's on the video splice???!!!!

Largeup.com goes live!!

First off, I need to congratulate the big homie DJ Gravy for continuing to put in work every day to push Caribbean music and culture forward to the general public. Him and I share the same philosophy that music is for everyone, and we both strive to make certain genres more accessible to those that don't know... His party in NYC "Rice & Peas" does exactly that. He's successfully merged the hardcore West Indian dancehall & reggae scene with the downtown club circuit and dare I say "hipster" scene. Rice & Peas reflects what a good crowd should be: good looking, fun, adventurous, diverse, and ready to get completely buck at any given moment (especially when Skerrit's in di place!) If you're in NYC and get down with reggae/dancehall music and haven't been fucking with Rice & Peas, your loss. Considering their parties seem to happen at least once a month I would jump on the next one. Gravy's fellow residents are none other than Max Glazer (Federation), Micro Don, Weed Kalogne, Maya, King Jam Unltd., and more.

Enough about Rice & Peas tho, this post is very special, and one I've been waiting to broadcast for a hot minute....

DJ Gravy has teamed up with stunning photographer Martei Korley (of Fader mag fame, amongst many others) to launch an innovative new website dedicated to Caribbean music, lifestyle & culture. The site is aptly called "LargeUp.com" and is in conjunction with Okay Player, easily one of the most recognized & respected hip hop sites & labels in the world. Therefore, large up will be seeing plenty of foot traffic soon enough, and in turn continue to push reggae music to the world; especially to those that aren't very familiar with reggae already. This is a very exciting opportunity, as many hip hop listeners (i.e. most okay player visitors) love reggae, but don't know the first thing about it. They may have heard and loved a Sizzla tune, but don't have a clue as to who he is or where to even buy his music. The goal is to connect everybody, not just pre-existing reggae music fans.

Large Up for makin it happen!! (hehe) I look forward to being a contributor here on the west coast!! On that note, any Bay Area-based photographers, videographers, editors, graphic designers interested in being a part of this amazing project, please contact me @ twelvetheories@gmail.com I'm currently working on building a team, and you could be on it! Plz hit me up for more info and perks. Peep the video trailer after the jump and please visit the site and subscribe for updates! (You should probably do that for this site too.)

~ CA$H FLOW FOREVER ~

Some big new hip hop/reggae remixes on deck...

I'll get right to it. For this one Drake & crew's hit "Forever" gets Major Lazer & Jahdan's "Cash Flow" treatment. 'Cash Flow Forever' is more of a party break, incorporating elements from both tunes with a clean 8 bar outro. Jahdan's smooth vocals from the original get taken to the street!! Bbbrrraapppp!!!!!

DJ Theory "Cash Flow Forever"

Bonus! Drake ft. Lil Wayne & Eminem "Forever" (DJ Theory's cash flow remix)

While we're at it, I realized I never posted my hip hop remix for "cash flow" so scoop those up after the jump.

Major Lazer ft. Jahdan Blakkamoore "Cash Flow" (DJ Theory's blap remix)
(Zip w/ full, dub & instro versions)

I refreshed the link for "Bombs Over The Bay" as well, a pretty smooth mash from a few months back.

DJ Theory ft. Outkast, Wailing Souls & Santigold "Bombs Over The Bay"
I recommend copping the Instrumental for added niceness!

Cooyah goes down every other wednesday @ Above Paradise, hosted by and featuring the official hot gyal crew ceo's Daneekah & Green B.

Jahdan's debut full-length takes off....

It seems that within only a couple weeks Jahdan Blakkamoore's debut full-length "Buzzrock Warrior" is getting rinsed out by the blogs, magazines, and reggae/dubstep/grime/bass/tropical movements alike... Not too surprising considering his works have been in a much more crossover direction ever since the worldwide success of 2006's "Brooklyn Anthem" w/ the homie 77Klash, and many subsequent releases on the more electronic tip than the reggae/dancehall tunes his fans have come to know and love. This just goes to show more and more that Jahdan isn't your average "sing-jay". He's an artist that consistently surprises me with his versatility, and brings new perspective to genres often kept within small confines. Of course being a reggae singer at heart, he's able to flex his natural sense of harmony and shine all of his vocal strengths across a wide board of production on "Buzzrock Warrior". No DJ Theory production on the album?? No worries, we got our own tings brewin.......

In the words of XLR8R:

"Buzzrock Warrior certainly sports an impressive resume. Largely produced by Dutty Artz head honchos Matt Shadetek and DJ /rupture, Jahdan Blakkamoore's album features high-profile guest appearances from grime don Durrty Goodz and fellow Brooklyn dancehall up-and-comer 77Klash, not to mention production work from Modeselektor, Jammer, Maga Bo, and Chancha Vía Circuito. Yet even with all those top-notch contributors and bits of dubstep, cumbia, and tropical bass sprinkled about, some folks may be a bit disappointed to find that Buzzrock Warrior is not some sort of next-level, off-the-wall reggae/dancehall experience. That's not a bad thing—if anything, the producers have taken a backseat to Jahdan himself, as his melodic croons and surprisingly sonorous growls make him the brightest star here."

Jahdan speaks on the record itself a bit, as well as his roots and coming up in NYC:

GO COP THE RECORD! It's available for digi @ Itunes, Amazon, and everywhere else. Maybe see a 12" soon too? Large up the whole family every time, Blakkamoore to di world! Bbrrrrraaaappppp!!!

Walshy Fire (Black Chiney) "Decades" mix

Whoa....... Walshy Fire from the infamous Black Chiney soundsystem brings us a comprehensive mix of decades (literally) of early dancehall that is sure to please every reggae lover. Big up to my peoples @ Frank / FDL for puttin this one out for the people, among with so many other contributions in that same dept. every day...

from Frank151:

Our Miami Movers and FRANKRADIO just wrapped up a new mix cd project with the one and only Walshy Fire (of Black Chiney) that you can download here. Expect that old dancehall fire from back when. It’s a nice little time capsule that will make you realize why you loved reggae to begin with.
There’s a description of the CD and some it’s songs by Walshy Fire himself after the jump.

Download Walshy Fire "Decades" mix here.

The Maddest Oldies Dancehall Series has finally hit the Streets! Decades - “the year to year cd!” From the cd starts the fire starts blazing. Fire pon a weak heart reggae dancehall lover on this one.The first Major flame is the Beres Hammond “Till You’ve got love”….bassline like how dancehall suppose to be.

After that it goes into the Everybody Bawling riddim mixed with a Beenie Man that the entire world is use to on a completey different riddim in its original style…the same riddim as barrington levys “murderer”. Mixed after is dancehall icon Nitty Gritty, but its the next big fireball..Malibu

“My friends” performed live on stage shows a million times in the live entertainer days. This 45 is completely hard to get and for many, never heard before on wax.
Forward to the Death in the Arena riddim for my new yorkers then over to the “Kuff”, “Devil Send You Come” riddim. Little Kirk burns a massive fire with “Suffer not the little ones” (sorry about the quality of it, but i had to put it on for di original Little Kirk fans) mixed in with the “Fresh” riddim di ting get mad!

But truss me, the undisputed biggest track on this cd is track #45! IT NUH GET NO BIGGA! Di original Murder she wrote 1988 on the Fresh Riddim. I’ve had more people ask me for this song then any song i have ever had…period! Pliers wasnt even using the name Pliers at the time. Forward to the “Mud Up” riddim and then into the 2000s with “Wanted” riddim.

Truss me di cd Mad! year to year, more like month to month imma drop a new volume, not for anyone but us, the people that love to hear those classic dancehall oldies!

Also, if you’ve read this far, you’ll probably want to check out Walshy’s Podomatic Podcast which has tons of episodes. Highlights include his Michael Jackson reggae tribute. Check that out here.

Reggae Rising 2009 :: Highly Recommended

Ohhhh gosh... I don't know if I've ever looked forward to a festival more than this... after having spent year after year on the East Coast, this will be the first West Coast festival I'll have the pleasure of attending. I've done the Bonnaroo thing, Rothbury is amazing, but I can't imagine anything compares to the pristine setting of this venue, along the Eel River in Humboldt County amongst redwoods, hills and valleys.... oh and the lineup is BANANAS (click image for larger view).

I'll be rolling with my bredren Jah Dan, who is performing on friday night @ 7pm (If you're going do NOT sleep on his set!) Also selecting @ the late night dancehall will be some of my SF peoples Daneekah & Green B, Beatnok & Mr Lucky, Stepwise, and Jah Yzer.

For more info visit ReggaeRising.com

See you in the sun with fat spliff in hand and smile pon face!
